Insurance companies keep track of  many statistics, including when driving is the safest and most dangerous. According to Allstate, for instance, the lowest-risk time for accidents is between 5 am and 11 pm on weekends, with the highest risk between 11 pm and 4 am on weekdays, and 11 pm to 5 am on weekends. And each state’s highway patrol office maintains numerous records on all crashes, incidents, fatalities, tickets. Further, insurance companies are now monitoring with computer devices – this is voluntary- a person’s driving habits such as how fast do they go, how hard do they brake, and how many miles are traveled daily. The devices, some being called Snapshot, collect data which is then turned over to the insurance company for analysis. Obviously, in short order the insurance company has a very good idea of someone’s driving habits and can ascertain insurance rates accordingly.
